Grenada known as the "Island of Spice" is a sovereign state in the West Indies and is the largest of 7 islands. Two of the most known smaller ones are Carriacou and Petite Martinique which are depended on Grenada. Because they are located in the Caribbean Sea, they have clear crystal water and white sandy beaches.  Grenada is 134.6 sq. miles in size and had a population of 112,000 in July of 2018.


Grenada Carnival (Spicemas)

Grenada's Carnival is held each year from the second weekend in July to the second Tuesday in August. Carnival in Grenada should be on every Soca Junkie list because Spicemas is the only place you can see the best Grenada Jab Jab and play Jouvert with actual car oil since this is the culture of Grenada.  Besides Jab Jab Jouvert being unique to Grenada Carnival, they also have what is called Monday Night Mas. This a parade of lights with  thousands of spectators in the streets of St. George's chipping to Soca Music and blowing Jab Jab horns. Naturally, like every other Caribbean Carnival there is the parade of the Carnival Mas Bands known as Fancy mas or Pretty Mas.

Soca Music Artist

Mr Killa

Born Hollice Mapp in Gouyave, Grenada, Mr Killa is more than a Soca Music artist. He also known to include a bit of Dancehall, EDM etc in his music making him very unique. This along with his skillful stage performance keeps his audiences while entertained.

Before he was internationally known, he was loved in his home country of Grenada. He won the countries first ever Teen Talent Search Competition at age 15.  His next victory came in 2004 at the Soca Monarch competition with Soca song "Thunder Rags". This earned him a spot in Trinidad and Tobago International Soca Monarch competition in 2005 where he placed in the top 5. His victory list continued the next year in 2006 when he won Grenada's Groovy and Soca Monarch titles. Then 2009 he won both the Soca Monarch and Road March titles.

He didn't blow to the level he is now until in 2014 with the song "Rolly Polly" (video below).  This made him widely known thru out the Caribbean and Internationally.  2018 he had another hit with "oil It".  In 2019 "Run With It" brought him the title of International Soca Monarch title and bragging rights to the first Non-Trinidadian to win the title.

In 2020 Mr Killa team up with Major Lazer to help them create their first ever Soca Music EP called "Soca Storm EP".  They created two songs.  "Soca Storm" and "King of the Party".
